Halloweensie 2015

Happy Halloweensie! It's time once again for Susanna Leonard Hill's teeny-tiny eensie-weensie story contest. And for me, it's a sort of anniversary--a sign that I've been studying picture book writing for one solid year. Getting involved with Susanna's Would-You-Read-It-Wednesday program and entering this contest last fall were some of my first discoveries as I started to delve into online writing resources. I've found a wealth of information and community since then. And now I'm pleased to bring the year full circle with another 100-word spooky story for the contest (using the words dark, haunt, and costume). Can't wait to see what others have come up with. Have fun, all you Halloweensie writers!
Knock-Knock

Knock-knock...
Who’s that prowling on my porch--
dark and silent, waving a torch?

Ding-dong…
Must you lurk? Must you linger,
pressing my bell with one knobbly finger?

Knock-knock.
You again? What do you want?
Kids to frighten? Mansions to haunt?

Ding-dong.
Beat it, goblin! Now I’m mad.
This Halloween is the worst that I’ve had.

Stuck in my house. No candy to eat.
Dressed up and waiting to go trick-or-treat…

…you’ve wrecked my plan to meet my friend Drew.

DREW!
            What a costume!
                                    I KNEW it was you.
