Author Visits
Teachers and school librarians, want to introduce your K-3 students to Earth's geologic wonders—both above and underground? Or, to the wonders of microscopic animal adaptations? Consider scheduling an author visit!
IN A CAVE Virtual Presentation:
I begin my ~20-minute presentation with a slideshow introducing kids to fun underground formations like cave popcorn and cave bacon, talk about my favorite vo-cave-ulary words, and end with a reading of IN A CAVE. With any remaining time, I'll take comments and questions from students. NATURE IS A SCULPTOR Virtual Presentation: I begin my ~20-minute presentation with a slideshow introducing the inspirations behind my books, talk about metaphors, and end with a reading of NATURE IS A SCULPTOR. With any remaining time, I'll take comments and questions from students. For now, these virtual-presentation offers are for U.S. schools and K-3 classrooms only, on the Zoom platform (I'll need screen-sharing permission). Pricing is nominal and flexible. Contact me to discuss your needs. IN A CAVE + NATURE IS A SCULPTOR In-Person Presentation (local to the San Francisco Bay Area): This ~40-minute presentation combines a slideshow, two book readings, and two demonstrations—with student volunteers. I'll bring along my faux cave entrance and a few fun props ("cave popcorn," "cave bacon," etc.) My slide presentation will touch upon cave formations, writing inspiration, metaphor, and my writing journey. Kids can chime in at the end with comments/shares/questions. This offer is for small K-3 classroom groups only (<30 students). A slide projector—with a cable that can connect it to an HDMI port—must be provided by the school. Pricing is nominal and flexible. Contact me to discuss your needs. ********** Interested? "Heather’s presentation to our kindergarten students was engaging, informative, and perfectly age-appropriate. She appealed to visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. Heather has a wonderful way of connecting with the students as she takes them through her book, Small Matters, which showcases many familiar animals. We all learned something new!"
